Places to Visit from your Holiday Apartment
There are numerous interesting and scenic places to visit within a short
drive, from the apartment with something to appeal to everyone. Marbella and Puerto
Banus are within a 10-15 min drive. The local town (San
Pedro de Alcantara) is less
than 5 minutes away.
San Pedro de Alcantara
A typical Spanish town with unspoilt beach, lovely palm lined promenade,
a good variety of restaurants and a weekly market (on Thursdays). Be sure to
head for the central plaza here with its gracious parish church and surrounding
narrow streets which are packed with intriguing small shops, sidewalk cafes
and bars.
Puerto Banus
Puerto Banus is the most fashionable resort in Southern
Spain and a playground of the rich and famous. Relax and admire the glistening
luxury yachts in the marina, whilst sipping a drink at one of the many open-air
cafes, bars, and restaurants. It's a shopper's paradise with everything from
stylish boutiques to street markets.
Marbella
One of the world's premier resort location’s - it has miles of golden
sandy beaches and elegant tree lined boulevards. The old town of Marbella is
typically Andalusian with small winding streets and beautifully landscaped
squares, which are a joy to stroll around.
Mijas
30 minutes drive away is Mijas, one of the finest examples
of the "white villages". It is still has much of its charm with its
narrow cobbled streets and small whitewashed houses perched on the hillside.
Browse round the numerous small shops selling local wares such as leather goods
and ceramics. See the village from a donkey-taxi and visit the beautiful Shrine
of the Calvario perched on the hillside and dating
back to 1710.
Ronda
Within 45 minutes drive is Ronda is a picturesque old town
built across an impressive gorge. It offers superb views of the surrounding
countryside. Ronda is also famous for its claim to be the home of the oldest
Bullring in Spain (Plaza
de Toros), dating from 1785.
Traditional White Villages
There are many pretty typically Spanish white villages just minutes from
the coast with breathtaking views as you drive inland.
Rock of Gibraltar
Cross the border from Spain into British territory, where you can see British
policemen, spend British money and enjoy the duty free shopping. The famous Rock of
Gibraltar is only 45 minutes away. See the impressive
rock, superb views, Barbary Apes , and take a tour of the
network of defensive tunnels.
Morocco
Did you know that Africa is a mere 70 minutes from Spain?
Why not combine your stay with a day trip to Morocco, taking
in the souks and kasbahs of another world. An experience not to be missed!
Ferries run from Gibraltar, Algecirasand Tarifa to
the Moroccan port of Tangiers.
Some Historic Spanish Towns
The historic towns of Seville, Cordoba, Cadiz and Grenada,
with the famous Alhambra Palace are highly recommended and within 2 hours drive.
